Operations Director

Rachel Housby Cert CII

I started work at Cumbria back in 1997 as a trainee broker. I began working on private car and private household insurance then moved into the commercial department. I also spent time working in the accounts department where I reconciled insurer accounts. I obtained my Cert CII qualification in March 2023. In 2022 I became Office Manager which is a role I thoroughly enjoy. I also still do commercial account handling alongside this.

We are a close team at Cumbria, we have worked together for a lot of years!

In my spare time I like to spend time with my family and friends, and I also enjoy going to the gym.

Clare Bradbury

I have worked for Cumbria Insurance Brokers for the past twenty years in an HR support role for the team and the MD. In my previous roles i worked in retail management and was a PA for several years for an Architects Practice.

I love being in the outdoors, meeting people and seeking out independent coffee shops on my travels.

Amanda Preston

I moved to Cumbria 15 years ago. Previously, I lived in Halesowen in the West Midlands where I worked as Commercial Account Handler from the age of 18 working at various brokers including HSBC Insurance Brokers and Footman James.

After moving to Cumbria, I had a break from work to look after my young family and joined Cumbria Insurance Brokers in 2014 as a Commercial Account Handler.

I live with my partner and three sons and outside of work I enjoy spending quality time with my family, gardening, reading and looking after my 2 dogs, 4 cats, 1 chicken and my goldfish!

Julie Campbell

I started my insurance career at National Employers Mutual back in 1976 straight out of school as a junior. I then moved to Sun Alliance 7 years later but was made redundant so moved to Giles Insurance Brokers in 1992. I love the variety of working for an insurance broker and dealing with your own clients. In 1987 I passed my Certificate of Proficiency exam.

My employment with Cumbria Insurance started on 24th February 2004.

I deal with personal lines and commercial insurance and really enjoy customer contact. My skills in previous jobs have all been customer focused and I get a lot of job satisfaction from helping others and knowing the client is happy with our service.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, walking my dog and going away on holiday.

Account Handler

Karen Bulman

I worked in insurance broking since leaving sixth form in 1984, obtaining my first job as a Junior in the Commercial Department with Bowring Smith (IB) Ltd. I was thrilled to get this job as there was over 100 applications I was told!

I followed a training programme, and was trained in all aspects of commercial insurance, developing to a Commercial Account Handler for one of the Director’s of the Company, handling his wide range of clients. I also obtained my Certificate of Proficiency.

Leaving Bowring’s in April 1993, I joined Cumbria Insurance Brokers Ltd as a full time Commercial Account Handler for the office manager. I worked part time after having my two children but recently went back to working full time.

I enjoy my work very much, particularly dealing direct with the clients, having worked here a long time you build up a strong rapport with your own clients and in return this helps with renewal retention.

I have worked at Cumbria Insurance for nearly 31 years, and in insurance for 40 years. Needless to say I think I must enjoy it!

In my leisure time I enjoy walking in the Lake District, springer spaniels, cooking, reading, chilling and interior design. I also love colour!

Susan Kerr

I have worked in insurance broking since leaving school in 1982, it was the first job i was offered, not a career choice! However, 42 years later apart from a few years our bringing up my boys in insurance I remain.

I have worked for Cumbria Insurance Brokers for 24 years on a part time basis.

Outside of work I am married with two grown up boys and a dog. I love all sport but particularly football.

I enjoy walking my dog, going away in our caravan and I also love a party!

Peter Breen Cert CII

Cumbria Insurance Brokers has been my professional home since July 2022. I joined as a Trainee Account Executive after spending many years working in the motor vehicle sales industries. I enrolled on an Apprenticeship which led me to gain my Cert CII qualification in 2024.

I dedicate myself to client retention and development. I am all about continuous professional development and love delving into diverse businesses. Beyond work, I’m a proud dad to two girls, and when time permits, you’ll find me either on the golf course or cheering on Everton.

Trainee Account Handler

Callan Waite

I joined the team at Cumbria Insurance Brokers in September 2023 as a Trainee Account Handler and I am currently working towards my Cert CII qualification. I enjoy the variety of work within my role, as well as developing my knowledge and skillset within the insurance industry.

Outside of work I enjoy socialising with friends as well as practicing music instruments and going to concerts.

Senior Account Handler

Gillian Harper ACII

I started my career in the insurance industry with Provincial (Axa) at their Head Office in Kendal. I obtained my ACII qualification and moved into broking, working for both local and national brokers.

I joined Cumbria Insurance Brokers in 2004 and have enjoyed dealing with many of the same clients for 20 years.

Away from work, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking our dog and holidays.
